Two materials with the same name can behave differently because of moisture, particle size, bulk density and volatile content. A useful request describes the feedstock and the desired output, not only the machine category.

- Initial and target moisture content.
- Particle size, bulk density and feed consistency.
- Required throughput and operating hours.
- Heat source, fuel preference and available utilities.
- Output quality, temperature and handling requirements.
- Emission, dust and local compliance requirements to be checked.
